How does Acne Form?

First, let us learn a little bit about our skin to know how does acne form. Our skin have pores which are the openings of the follicles on the skin's surface. The Follicle is a duct in the skin that contains the hair and it's attached to the sebaceous glands that produce sebum. Sebum is what lubricates the skin & hair as it flows through the follicle and creates the visible opening that is called the pores. So, when our follicles are plugged with oils and dead skin cells this is when Acne occurs as well as whiteheads, blackheads and pimples. Acne prone skin & oily skin don't shed cells from the skin's surface as the normal skin does. This causes pileups of dead cells or what we call "cells build up". The cells build up inside the follicles thickening the lining of the follicle & contributing to the congestion of the follicles, resulting in the formation of clogged pores, black heads, acne & skin breakouts.

Now we know how does Acne form but we need to know also how to control the excessive sebum so we won't get Acne, whiteheads, blackheads or pimples. First tip, use a foaming cleanser that helps breaking down and reducing oiliness. Good ingredients to look for are Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, Chamomile & Hamamelis (Witch Hazel) extracts. Using an Acne face wash gel is proven to be more effective against acne than using regular rinse-off wash products. Another great tip for Acne prone skin is using a face toner. An easy and very effective toner to use is Witch Hazel hydrosol. It's a very effective product to balance the oiliness and to fight any skin's inflammation. It can effectively dries out your acne blemishes without drying out your skin. Make sure to use Natural or Organic Witch hazel Hydrosol and not the ones that contain Alcohol as they can cause skin damage & irritation.  Next Post, What causes Acne? and Why do some people get it while others don't?
